21 books in 2 days. (well, not really but sort of)

i have to create 21 tiny books (all the same one, just many copies)  for my book, box and portfolio class.

it mostly must be told in pictures
but we can use a sentence or two,
the entire book will be made from one sheet of paper (folded up very small-ly),
it must be a narrative
the idea should be simple
nothing 3D can be involved.

i know there's a perfect idea out there waiting for me but i need some help getting started.

help!
leave ideas in my comment thread.
my mock-up is due wednesday.

ps. i was thinking of using a strand of lyrics by joni or cash or innocence mission..any good ones come to mind?

dude, there are a million possibilites for this. feature on each page a cool item in your room and tell a story about it in 3 words. or make a book all about your favorite outfit. each page features one piece of the get up.

how 'bout this line from joanna newsom's song "only skin":

"when i cut your hair and leave the birds all of the trimmings, i am the happiest woman among all women."

i've always liked that bit.
and there are lots of pretty drawings that could go with it. nests and scissors and hair and birds and such.

that's just the first thing that came to mind... ha! there're so many things you could do. how many pages does it have to be? i'd love to see it when it's finished.

oh wait, pages = one sheet of paper folded up very small-ly. right.

also, your innocence mission idea is excellent too. lovely lovely lovely.

hey Dawn, got any ideas? "oh hell" as Sienna said sounds fitting and without the 2 other words expressing hope. I don't think we are needed here!

you could trace the path of a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation.

i say take all of your knowledge about the holocaust and make a startling but true little story. oh and put your genius with words to good use by coming up with some beautiful and sad sentences.

Kyrie -

I dunno why you are asking for our help. I think you are one very creative cat. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with...and if you have one to spare, bring one down so I can put it up in my bare office :).

My advice to you: you and eric should go sit on a bench with a good bev. and come up with the idea together.

Kyrie,

you were looking for a song for this project, and you mentioned Cash. Consider "Bird on a Wire," a Leonard Cohen song Cash covers. It begins with these lines:

Like a bird on a wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free

-Vincent

Eric is gifted in his own right-however, kyrie with a good chunk of her creative dad in her-well, she on the bench by herself should do it!

if you want lyrics by joni, how about using the lyrics from "river",
It's coming on christmas, they're cuttin down trees....putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace. Oh i wish i had a river, I could skate away on... i wish i had a river so long i could teach my feet to flyyyy...... each page could show your feet in little white skates in a different position on the ice. The first page could have the first line...the last page the last line...joni fans would get it. Maybe you could cut linoleum blocked pictures and stamp them on black paper cut just a bit smaller and pasted onto red paper. Then you could use them as little christmas gifts( or cards) in a few months... Anyway, that's my initial first thoughts on the subject:) Whatever you do will be wonderful I know!

I'm into baby books these days. You could have a book of facial expressions, maybe Edward Gorey-style. Think the "Atlas of Facial Expression" for tots.

"you never know,
you never really know.
and you can't have people figured out.
one friend came in
out of nowhere, with lit
sparklers in both her hands for me,
and saved the day
when i had run away
to envy and black feelings.
and the world at night
could see the greatest light.
too much light to deny."

(but I think you could probably do just as well as that all by yourself).

today when I was walking in the neighborhood around campus I noticed a lovely woman with a bleach blond bob wearing a white cotton mini dress and oversized white plastic rimmed sunglasses.
She was happily sunbathing on an electric box, one hand on very pregnant belly and the other holding the hand of a little boy with black curly hair.
She has a story.
If it is a narrative project you could people watch and find someone who has a story?? :]
Can't wait to see!!! Two days is so quick!
good luck!

Hmmm ~ was I undermining your creativity, "Creative Cat" :)? For some reason, your mother's comment made me think I had....maybe not. Maybe your mother is re-emphasizing that you are in fact creative :).

Either way - if I need to clarify; I never thought you HAD to do this with Eric. I thought it would be FUN for both of you. If clarification was not needed...I'm sorry :).

Anyhoot! I can't wait to see you guys!!

hey Kibbe....man I LOVE THAT SONG. but i love the version where my boy james taylor sings it.

dang...now im in the mood for christmas.

Kyr,

hey here's a fun sort of idea. you could start out with the world...or the universe? and keep zooming in. eventually just show a forest from above and part of the ocean. then a neighborhood. then a house. then a treehouse. then a beatle crawling on that tree house. get what i mean?

or do a little book of thigns you think should have floats in the macy's thanxgiving day parade!

Hey Linnea, since I wrote that comment that song's been in my head non-stop and I'm singing it out loud in the car. Yep, Christmas music is rightaround the corner...
